Fairytale Pumpkin – Orange Color

Another Living Felt tutorial taught me this fairytale pumpkin.  I was extremely nervous to make this pumpkin.  It is wet felted using a book resist.  I have never used this kind of resist before and could not figure out what they used as the resist.  My first attempt was not perfect because I didn’t use the correct resist materials.  So I read the instructions again and realized the answer was at a hardware store.  30 minutes later I had the correct resist materials!  The second attempt was a success!

The pumpkin is made with a pumpkin colored merino wool with orange silk hankies.  The stem is made separately.  It has a wire armature wrapped in wool.  It was then covered in a wool and silk blend with greens, tans, oranges, and whites.  The stem is wet felted separately.  Once both pieces are dry, the pumpkin is stuffed with polyfill and the stem is attached via needle felting.

It was a fun process that took at 3 hours over multiple days (not counting drying time).  The pumpkin is approximately 11 inches tall and 9.5 inches in diameter.
